Physical Description: Blue Catfish have a forked tail, similar to the channel catfish.
Average Length: Up to 65 inches
Average Weight: Up to 150 pounds
Life Expectancy: 20-25 years
Habitat: The blue catfish thrives in reservoirs and rivers but can also be found in lakes and ponds. The highest concentration seems to be in slower moving waters just downstream from dams.
Feeding Habits: The blue catfish prefers live fish but will also feed on insects and plant matter. They in fish, crabs, crayfish and other invertebrates.
Bait: Live bait including shad, minnows, sunfish, night crawlers, and chubs. Chicken liver, hot dogs, cut bait, cheese bait, and shrimp also produce bites. As with any fish species, the best bait would be bait fish native to the water you are fishing.
